Those pesky chain letters can be lucky for you .... if you know how to leverage them for your job hunt.Draw up a list of 20 companies you want to work for and send an email to everyone you know asking them to please read the list and see if they know anyone who works at any of the 20 companies. Ask them to contact you if they know anyone so you can ask for a referral.
Ask for a referral at every company where someone knows someone.
Lastly, ask them to forward your email message to ten more people.
- If you email your list to 10 people and they email it to 10 people and... Within 4 cycles you have covered 10,000 people.
- Don't ask people to email to more than 10 people because it's been
my experience that a request of more than 10 starts to burden people
and they just won't do it.
- Put your email address into the message so people can email you directly back if they have a contact.
- Only put your phone number in if you don't mind having people call you.
- Don't put anything in the letter you wouldn't want a stranger to have.
- Put your name and email address at the top of the message in a
"From:" salutation, so they can find your coordinates quickly.
Don't tell people their lives will be incomplete if they break the "chain" - do tell them they may be unimmortalized int the Guinness book of Records
